Casper is an open-response situational judgement test that assesses an applicant’s social intelligence and professionalism by sampling personal characteristics such as empathy, ethics, and communication skills - traits that many professional schools prioritize in their admissions process.
If you are unhappy with your Casper results or planning to apply to a future admissions cycle, here is everything you need to know when considering retaking the Casper Test.
I. Can You Retake the Casper During the Same Admissions Cycle?
Unfortunately, applicants are only permitted one attempt per test type per admissions cycle. Additionally, Casper scores are also only valid for a single admissions cycle, meaning they cannot be carried over for future admissions cycles.
II. What if I'm Applying to Multiple Programs?
If you are applying to multiple schools within the same program type, like multiple medical schools, you will only need to take the Casper examination once per admissions cycle. This same score can be distributed to all participating schools, if they require the same test type.
III. Can I Retake Casper for Another Program Type or Language?
Casper tests offer multiple test types for different countries, including those for US Medicine, Canadian Professional Health Sciences, etc. If you are applying to multiple programs - such as both US Medicine and Canadian Professional Health Sciences - it is required to take a separate Casper test for each program.
Similar to program type, schools that require Casper tests in different languages must receive a separate Casper test for each language. Canadian programs require applicants to either take the Casper test in English (“Canadian Professional Health Sciences”) or in French (“Sciences de la santé”). Scores from each Casper test language can only be transferred to programs requiring that specific language.
IV. When Will I Need to Take Casper Again?
Test takers are only allowed one Casper attempt per admissions cycle for each specific test type. However, for individuals applying to multiple programs requiring different Casper test types or languages, applicants may have to take multiple Casper tests within a given admissions cycle. Casper scores are only valid for the admissions cycle it is taken in and applicants applying to future admissions cycles will have to retake.
V. How to Distribute Your Casper Results Correctly
Once you complete the Casper test, you must manually select and assign your results to each school you’re applying to through your Acuity Insights account. After logging into your account, add new distributions under the Reservation page. To ensure that Casper test scores are distributed correctly, make sure to check program-specific Casper requirements and deadlines.
VI. What If I'm Not Happy with My Score?
Applicants are unable to view their Casper score, and there is no option to retake the Casper exam during a single admissions cycle. However, if you believe that you underperformed, it is important to remember that your Casper score is only one part of the holistic admissions review and that your score will not jeopardize your entire application.
VII. Tips to Improve Before a Retake
If you are planning to apply to a future admissions cycle, here is a list of recommended tips to ensure you get the Casper score you desire on your retake.
