Required Shadowing Hours:

  • 100 total hours of shadowing is required and must be completed by the October 1st application deadline. 
  • Shadowing is to be completed within General Dentistry and at least two (2) different dentistry specialty practices, for example, oral surgery, periodontics, orthodontics, etc. Shadowing in public health clinics and other health environments are acceptable.
  • Shadowing can be completed in-person or virtual.

Letters of Recommendation: 

  • Two letters: one from science or research faculty member you studied under and second from another faculty member or dentist you shadowed in the last 12 months.
  • Note: Committee letters count as one letter, instead of three.

Interview Format

  • Oral Health Research Institute (OHRI) allows for dental research in areas including bone/regenerative medicine, dental public health, and dental informatics

  • Clinical Curriculum Overview
    • D1: Introduction relevant biomedical sciences, dental materials, and treatment planning. 
    • D2: Students take community-based education courses and get introduced to dental specialties.
    • D3: Students continue community-based education and complete Dental Rounds. Clinic courses in advanced restorative dentistry, cariology, dentures, and more.
    • D4: Students provide comprehensive dental care to patients through various clinics. Students undergo rotations in oral surgery and emergency clinics.
